Ontario Line Urban-Rail Extension

Location: Canada (2019-Ongoing, Expected Construction – 2027)

Owner: Metrolinx, Ontario, Canada

Reliance is part of the Owner’s Technical Advisory Team providing services to Metrolinx, as a sub-consultant to HDR on a major urban rail expansion project. The proposed Ontario Line Urban-Rail Extension project involves the construction of approximately 12.8 km of dual mainline light rail transit (LRT) corridor, including sections which are underground, at grade, and elevated guideway; 400 m of a new line for the Maintenance and Storage Facility; and 15 new stations. The planned alignment and profile of the new LRT line require considerable underground construction including nearly 10 kilometers of tunneling and eight stations will be constructed in mined cavities, ranging in depth from 30 to 40 meters below grade. The project also includes seven additional at-grade stations. The anticipated project completion is the end of 2027. Currently, we are providing tunneling, geotechnical, mining, and high-level project schedule analysis to finalize alignment and profile. Reliance is providing tunnel engineering, geotechnical engineering, and schedule analysis during the planning stages of this large Urban Rail project undertaken by a public rail transportation authority.
