Tom Martin

Tom has five decades of experience covering all phases of tunnel construction using TBM as well as other mining methods. In addition, Tom’s experience includes the purchase and commissioning of many TMB machines, developing engineer’s estimates for tunneling and other underground work for consulting firms and public agencies, and developing bid estimates for tunneling and underground construction on behalf of construction firms. He has served in varied roles including as Construction Manager, Project Director, and Engineer to the Contract and Project Engineer on various tunneling projects—where he gained hands-on experience in problem-solving and trouble-shooting during tunneling and underground construction projects. Tom also has considerable experience with Tunnel and Underground Design-Build projects where he has served on the Owner’s Engineering Team, Design Engineer’s Team, as well as Contractor’s team. Tom’s participation on these projects included providing conceptual construction means and methods analysis for developing the preliminary tunnel construction schedule and identifying key construction issues relevant to these projects. Both projects are in heavily urban settings with rock and mixed face tunnels and potentially several mined stations.
