In 2016, MBTA appointed Reliance as part of the Interim Project Management Team (IPMT) tasked with bringing the project costs under the allocated budget of $2.1 billion from the $3.0 billion projected at that time. Reliance served as the Value Manager on the IPMT team, which successfully reduced the estimated project costs by over $700 million while keeping the end-user services intact. Working through the IPMT, Reliance also assisted the MBTA in repackaging the project as a Design-Build contract, project advertisement, contractor selection, and procurement. The project consists of a 4.8- mile extension of the Green Line light rail service along two branches, a new maintenance facility, seven new stations, and modifications to the existing infrastructure, utilities, and other facilities along the corridor. As part of our continued services, Reliance provided design review in bridge and geotechnical disciplines, project management assistance, project controls, cost estimating, and contractor change- order and claims review. GLX is an exceptionally large MBTA project that involves several different structures and facilities. Reliance participated in contributing to the project success since the IPMT days, through the final design, the construction phase, and the closeout phases of the project.
