Holland Tunnel is a landmark tunnel connecting lower Manhattan and Jersey City. This is the first Hudson River vehicular crossing connecting Canal Street in Manhattan with 12th and 14th Streets in Jersey City. Sena Kumarasena, Ph.D., PE served as the Project Engineer for the seismic evaluation study. The bi-level seismic evaluation consistent with the NYC seismic hazard design guidelines for bridges consisted of a Functional Evaluation Earthquake with a 500-year recurrence event, and a Safety Evaluation Earthquake corresponding to a 2,500-year recurrence event.
