Reliance’s Principal, Sena Kumarasena, is serving as the Steel Bridge Engineering Specialist on the General Consultant Team to the Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority for the MTHL. The project consists of a 21.8-km (13.5-mile) long dual-carriageway crossing of the Mumbai Harbor. The crossing is located in a region with considerable salt-water spray and exposure during the monsoon periods. In addition to the engineering related to traditional bridge and foundation engineering, the services provided included the incorporation of design features that are aimed at achieving the required 100-year design life in this environment as well as incorporating life-safety features due to the length of the crossing.
