With over 45 years of experience as a Civil Engineer, Thomas F. Mahoney, PE has had a distinguished career. Until he retired from state service in 2021, he held the position of Director of Airport Engineering within the Aeronautics Division of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). In this role, he served as the Chief Engineer for the Division, overseeing all engineering projects at 35 public use General Aviation airports in Massachusetts. Notably, he initiated and successfully led the Statewide Airport Administration Building program at MassDOT, overseeing the construction of administration buildings at various general aviation airports. These buildings ranged in size from 3,500 to 5,500 square feet, with each project averaging approximately $5 million for design and construction. To date, five such buildings have been completed as part of this program. industry, providing engineering services to both public and private clients. Some of his projects include runway and taxiway reconstruction at several airports throughout New England, service road reconstruction at Westover Air Reserve Base for the federal government, toll booth renovations, and interchange lighting on the Massachusetts Turnpike for the Turnpike Authority. Additionally, he provided engineering services for several developers for various projects including commercial site plans and/or residential subdivisions.
