Qamar Kazmi, PE, F.ASCE served as the Technical Reviewer for the civil design packages for the $1.1 billion design-build project to construct 11 miles of new heavy rail alignment. Qamar was responsible for senior review of geotechnical reports and recommendations for various geotechnical issues, including civil works along the entire alignment, over 20 miles of retaining walls, 17 traction power/tie-breaker stations, stormwater management facilities, and extensive area roadway improvements. In addition, he provided recommendations for alternative subdrainage systems to speed construction and reduce construction costs. Rock modeling allowed for reduced lateral earth pressures within rock cuts allowing for a more efficient foundation design.
